Are you aware of the health benefits of red wine? This article will help you appreciate
that next glass of red wine even more, so read on...
To Your Health! For Your Health! More than a toast with wine glasses clinking away.
Is it possible red wine can be good for your health as well as fun to drink? There
has been talk for quite awhile that drinking wine in moderation can lower blood pressure,
prevent hardening of the arteries, be helpful in treating COPD, act as a blood thinner
and in be beneficial to your health in other ways.
Recently researchers at the University of Illinois and elsewhere found that trans-Resveratrol,
better known as "Res" (an antioxidant found in grapes and grape products, peanuts
and raspberries) has both anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties).
Back in 1936 there was a little book published in France, called Mon Docteur le Vin,
literal translation is My Doctor, Wine, it is still available today and tells of
the pleasures and health benefits of drinking wine. Would that we all could have
wine for a doctor.
The "French Paradox" is spoken of today, and studies show that drinking 1 to 2 glasses
of red wine a day will contribute to our longevity...and just when we thought everything
we liked to do was bad for us. However, we do want to caution you that pregnancy
and wine do NOT go together, you have to let the little one grow up and drink his
own for it to be good for his health!
Science News published a lengthy article about the studies made for two decades,
trying to figure out why the French who ate butter, rich sauces and heavy foods seemed
not to be bothered with hardening of the arteries. The answer is finally here, they
have narrowed it down to "polyphenols", which are known to combat damaging free radicals
in the body. Plant pigments, which impart that lovely deep, deep red color to all
the red wines. These same pigments make red wine a powerful anti-oxidant that helps
wash fats our of our arteries.
These studies certainly fit in with our plans very well, not only can you drink red
wine, but you may protect your heart and might prevent cancer as well. Quite a recommendation
for drinking wine in moderation!
